3. Diving Into The Protagonist's Past
I love back-stories, they can introduce conflicted emotions and morally grey opinions for individuals for whom you may have initially hated or perhaps adored. In Mass Effect the back-stories chosen in the character creation screen, gave players three different options for where Shepard was born and what made him stand out in the military, but none of these radically different origins were never truly explored. In order for the audience to be sold on what makes this next protagonist a worthy successor, we need to see what will make him a notable figure in the Mass Effect universe. Bioware have explored vastly different origins before with Dragon Age: Origins, giving players a total of six diverse back-stories. For me the Dwarf Commoner's origin raised the hairs on my arms and neck with its incredible story-line. It made the Grey Warden a strong character as I dictated how he would react to the inhuman struggles for his sect of people. If this was implemented in someway and we were able to participate in the protagonist's defining moment, it can only work in the sequel's favor.
