Mass Effect: 8 Ways Developers Could Produce A New Entry Worthy Of The Fanbase

7. Let Us Play As Multiple Races

Salarian Mass Effect
Bioware

Other than in the online modes, the ability to play as other races throughout the galaxy was something that Mass Effect was missing and a feature that a lot of fans have asked for previously. This move was understandable, given the story being based on humans finding their way in an expansive universe. However, it was also a move that somewhat limited the potential of the games as a whole.

There are a couple of ways Bioware could introduce this. Firstly, during character creation, the player could pick a particular race or class, similar to many fantasy RPGs. This would offer a greater variety of protagonist with multiple builds and create a high replay value.

Alternatively, players could take control of each of their party members and switch between them at the press of a button. Much like what Bioware did with Dragon Age, the player could create one character, but complete quests alongside numerous interchangeable companions, picking and choosing between them dependent on the task at hand. This would help them to learn multiple play styles and again bring more variety to the overall experience.

Either of these options could quite likely be a revolutionary step forward for the franchise.
