Mass Effect: Andromeda - 10 Core Improvements Fans Haven't Considered
5. Real-Time Strategy Clashes
One of the problems that many modern day shooters suffer from is that of repetitive gameplay - there's just a constant procession of dudes and dudettes to shoot at, and there's no real progression beyond the idea of getting to a plot-important doodad and either destroying it or defending it as the situation demands. Variety is the spice of life, as the saying goes, and it holds true for games, too - more options in gameplay makes it less likely that things become boring, which should be a trait all games desperately try to avoid. With that in mind, the Mass Effect series is absolutely ripe for the addition of RTS sequences. Rather than a lone soldier going deep into enemy territory to strike at the source of the problem, like in the original games, there's so much potential for Andromeda to set us a challenge of controlling a force in real time against waves of enemy units. If resources and manpower is limited, it could be made even more challenging, as you fight to survive whilst having to keenly analyse how much longer you'll be able to maintain your units. There's even possibility of using it as a throwback to the original games, with the Battle of the Citadel and the final dogfight over Earth two crucial encounters to decide the fate of the galaxy. Players never really got the chance to get involved with this pivotal scene properly, and it's easily one of the biggest battles of the series. Admittedly, it's a long shot that this will be included in the game, but wouldn't it be insanely awesome to try out?
