6. Choices Are Weighted Towards Being The Hero?

"I think I will feel like a hero" was also posited - which is a strange overarching question, when you think about the narrative possibilities inherent to Mass Effect overall. It's not that we ever want to play as the villain per se, but 'hero' tends to ebb more towards good choices overall, as oppose to allowing for things like throwing soldiers out of windows, or punching journalists for asking too many questions. Bioware tried to give Shepard an underlying personality in Mass Effect 3, which was essentially anathema to everything we'd done beforehand. Suddenly there were less dialogue options to pick from as Shepard talked of his own accord, and following that we had him responding emotionally to the death of a child from the beginning of the game. Many people - including myself - created Shepards that ruled with an iron fist; soldiers who'd already seen the horror of war and survived. It just didn't make sense to suddenly give him/her a conscience, and especially not one we had no control over. Here's hoping there's not a subtle 'right way to play' Andromeda by the time the credits roll.
