Mass Effect Andromeda: 9 Overlooked Positives Nobody Wants To Admit

4. Ditching Renegade & Paragon

Mass Effect Andromeda Dialogue Choices
BioWare

Though the series' prior Renegade/Paragon morality system was a bold attempt to make character agency less-binary, its exclusion here isn't at all to the game's detriment, but in fact quite the opposite.

Andromeda's more wide-open dialogue choices feel like they create a more believable human being, whereas the Renegade/Paragon options were too transparent and didn't leave enough middle-ground. You basically ended up a total maniac or a boring squeaky-clean hero.

Considering that palpable emotional intelligence is an area where video games typically still falter, it's refreshing to see the game create semi-authentic characters, while not pressuring the player to worry too much about whether they're a baddie or a goodie.
