Mass Effect Andromeda CES Trailer: 10 Reasons You Should Be Worried

2. The Happy-Go-Lucky Humour

What started life as the self-aware, Joss Whedon dialogue in The Avengers has bloated out into every mainstream franchise under the sun stopping the action or crowbarring a one-liner in to 'address' the inherent 'silliness' of a given situation.

All subsequent Marvel movies have it in spades, Gears of War 4's new main-man JD Fenix was forever trying to be the next Nathan Drake, and now in the new ME:A footage, we've got Ryder yelling, "Anyone order a friendly observer?" before wading into battle.

Now, I don't know about you, but I'm sick to death of every last fictional character - living in a world where they know no different - trying to be Honest Trailer-proof. There's such a thing as contextual realism, and it applies to dialogue too.

It's gonna be a real shame if a ton of the random quips and dialogue prompts that the Ryders utter in combat are designed in this very same, safe, sterile way as far too many other mainstream properties.
