If you're playing a gay male Ryder, Gill is one of the best romances you can embark on, coming complete with multiple dates, some nicely personable exchanges, and even letting you have some agency in the outcome of him wanting to father a child.

That said, if you don't chase these things down, Gill will remain in the ship's engine room, and I'd wager you'll totally forget about him, as Mr. Brodie plays zero part in the crew's dynamic, nor does he factor into the story.

This ain't no Kaylee from Firefly or Star Trek's Scotty where the engineer is a crucial part of making a getaway or igniting the ship's thrusters in the heat of battle, either. Gil just... is, and that costs him immeasurably in the memorability stakes.
