Metal Gear Solid: 16 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Totally Missed

10. Snake's MGS 4 Moustache Is Modelled On Lee Van Cleef

When Kojima decided to run with the idea of ageing Snake into a 70-year old (looking) pension-dodging badass, the design team reportedly went through a huge number of revisions, but not for his overall aesthetic or which age group to place him in - instead, it was Snake's moustache they just couldn't agree on. After much deliberation, Kojima's love for the West shone through yet again, as he chose Lee Van Cleef's famous cookie-duster from The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, a 'tash that although it ostensibly comes across as generic at first look, kinda changes the way you look at Old Snake forever more. It's also worth noting that the team loved the idea of Snake's hair growing in real time too, but the technology wouldn't allow them to do it effectively at the time - however the exact same idea was something CD Projekt RED nailed for 2015's The Witcher 3.
