Metal Gear Solid: 20 Things That Made You Love Hideo Kojima

8. Raiden's Reintroduction

"Oh you didn't like him? Well that was sort of the point... but what if now, he's Superman?" Something like that must have been Kojima's train of thought going into MGS 4's pre-production, as not only did he think it appropriate to bring back one of the most roundly-despised characters in gaming history, but aside from the white hair and returning pipes of Quinton Flynn, this wasn't really Raiden as we knew him. All the better though, as the newly-minted cyborg ninja-version of the character set about dispatching a slew of the death-dealing Gekkos that Snake himself had trouble with - all in a blur of blades, breakdancing-style kicks and aerial gymnastics. The fact that Kojima released the cutscene footage of his return as a trailer was in itself a masterstroke, as fans didn't realise who this was until the very end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D12qGelZAi0 We really need more moments like these in gaming, as sure it's completely over the top - but when the heart of the series is in the right place, there's nothing like it.
