Metal Gear Solid 6: 10 Ways To Make It Work Without Kojima

3. Actually Tell Big Boss' Downfall

The flip-side to doubling down on the gameplay side of things is to pick up where Kojima left off and deliver the one plot point we thought we were getting in Phantom Pain: How Big Boss went from hero to villain.

MGS V quite literally doesn't address this whatsoever, despite some potential for emotional turmoil in missions like Shining Lights, Even in Death, or the loss of a key character right at the close of the game. We were promised the "missing link" in the saga, and although Kojima elected to do an about-face for the sake of delivering a pretty insane "you're not who you think you are" rug-pull, what fans really wanted was to actually see their former hero's descent into madness.

Thing is - would any major plot-related event actually matter if it doesn't come from the mind of Kojima anyway? He's always had an advisory writing team that could resurface ideas that weren't fleshed out, but it would require quite the effort on Konami's part to ensure fans that the newest instalment was in the best hands.

Frankly, I don't ever see Konami doing anything 'for the fans' after everything, but crazier things have happened when it comes to them handling Metal Gear-related PR... *cough* MGS 2's false marketing *cough*.
