Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain - 10 Insane New Features You Must See
9. Climbable Cliff Faces
Kojima hasn't just been taking note of how much everyone loved the horse-riding inside Red Dead Redemption, it appears he's also a fan of the freedom offered from the Assassin's Creed series, where you can just dart up the side of an nearby vertical surface for a better vantage point. So far this feature has only been shown at a contextually-specific section at the beginning of the new demo, but it would be criminal to not include it in the many different areas we know we're going to be infiltrating. Imagine going after hostages in a manner similar to the Ground Zeroes mission, only you can clamber up the side of pipes and architecture to get around guards, Hitman-style. It'd add a whole new way of playing Metal Gear before we've even indulged in anything else. On the other hand we mention the 'contextually-specific' label because it seems Snake can only grab onto very specific parts of the cliff's edge - namely gigantic cracks that he can dig his hands into, to pull himself up. With any luck different pieces of the environment will be used as well, otherwise we're going to end up with another Arkham-Gargoyle situation where there's a bunch of the same item everywhere for the sake of traversal.
