Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain - 10 Insane New Features You Must See

8. An All-Detecting Sonar Blast

Continuing to fly a nanomachine-enhanced middle finger in the face of the idea that high-tech hologram technology and biometric-reading binoculars didn't exist 30 years ago, Snake now has access to a suitably badass-looking sonar smart-bomb to tag enemies. In Ground Zeroes we got a taste of how the new radar-less world was going to operate, and initially that was through carefully scouting ahead with your binoculars, waiting a couple seconds on a target for the game to tag them, and then keeping tabs on where they headed - as you could see silhouettes through walls afterwards. Here though Snake drops into a lush jungle area only to then pound on the floor, sending out a shockwave of digital information that pings back a bunch of icons relating to points of interest such as enemies and other creatures ahead. Very slick indeed, just don't try to think about how it works too much.
