Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain - 10 Insane New Features You Must See
5. Blazing Inferno-Creating Petrol Bombs
Another nod to another franchise is Metal Gear's adoption of the fire-based mechanics from Far Cry, as in those games if you ever happened to lob anything that would produce flames - a molotov cocktail for example - near a patch of grass, the whole thing would set alight, with the wind blowing the flames into neighbouring fields, trees and bushes. Here we didn't see a blaze get completely out of control, but when Snake was pinned down by a pursuing team of soldiers who'd ran into a field of grass, a quick toss-in of a couple petrol bombs lit the whole area up, torching everyone inside. The series has rarely played with fire in the past, short of being a weapon available online through the Subsistence package re-release that followed Snake Eater, or as a makeshift weapon in the original 2D Metal Gear 2, so it's a pretty cool implementation of an element that looks absolutely gorgeous in the new FOX gameplay engine.
