3. The Boss

Ghosts are fairly commonplace in Metal Gear Solid - just because a character is dead doesn't mean we won't be seeing them again in some form. With this in mind, it seems fairly obvious that The Boss might make an unexpected appearance. Big Boss' relationship with The Boss is key to the narrative of Snake Eater and while he has to ultimately defeat her for good, he does so with an incredibly heavy heart, especially due to her great accomplishments forever being buried with her. Operation Snake Eater caused huge emotional damage to Big Boss then - at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, he reflects that he has been dead since the day he killed her. That's something that we could see explored in The Phantom Pain. Any scenes with the Boss in will probably be flashbacks but done right, it would create a great moment for fans returning to the series. Alternatively, memories of The Boss could haunt Big Boss and drive him to madness - something else that would be intriguing to see play out. A flashback role for The Boss might seem out of place in The Phantom Pain's timeline but if we're to see Big Boss develop and change over the course of the game, memories of The Boss will play a huge part in that.
