Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 12 Crucial Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

7. Export Your Ground Zeroes Save

At time of writing, Konami's servers are struggling to maintain the load of the entire world trying to manage their respective Mother Bases, but occasionally you'll be able to break through and establish a connection. Besides being necessary for the FOB multiplayer, connecting to the server lets you port across your save from Ground Zeroes, 2014's initially demo-like offering that when connected to PP, gives you a number of bonuses. First up there's the Sneaking Suit modelled after what Snake wears on that mission (you can get one in the base game anyway with the same silenced footstep/reduced damage perks, but aesthetically they're very different). Second are the soldiers you've extracted from the compound, as although the main GZ mission was centred on saving Paz and Chico, everyone in Chico's area was extractable, alongside in the four bonus missions if you explored every corner of the base, you'd find additional soldiers that could be brought home too. At the time we thought it was all padding to justify the cost of something that essentially could've been a demo (and for the most part, it was), but if you load up GZ, upload your save from the main menu, cross over to Phantom Pain and you'll get a prompt notifying you of "Those soldiers you rescued from Cuba" have been added. Fans who did the extra missions will know why one of those soldiers is very special already, but let's just say you should do the Intel Operative Rescue mission in GZ, as this 'character' gets to come into your Phantom Pain save if you do.
