Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 12 Crucial Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

6. Use The Cardboard Box To Stop Convoys & Vehicles

Across the game you'll get to choose a handful of missions that task you with destroying convoys or individual vehicles, but early in the campaign you'll not have access to any heavy artillery, short of locating a missile-equipped tank or trying to lob a grenade in the right place. The way around this (until you unlock a specific ability for D-Horse anyway) is to use the cardboard box as a roadblock. It might seem a bit strange, but in any of these missions if Miller has marked the route your enemy is taking (or if they're in a valley pass with only one way to go), mount up and dart far ahead. Equip the box and sit in the middle of the road, then instead of un-equipping, hit the Dive button (Square on PS4, X on Xbox One). This will make Snake dart straight out the side of the box, leaving it firmly in place. Everyone from jeeps to tanks will stop at such a thing in the middle of the road, and for the most part they'll get out and venture over to see for themselves, without - and this is key - phoning in an alert phase. You're free to plant C4 on the respective vehicles or take them out however you like by going around the side, and if it's a hostage rescue the soldiers will most likely leave them unattended whilst they investigate, allowing you to nab your target and finish with the 'No Kills' bonus intact.
