Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 9 Big Questions It Should've Answered (But Didn't)
8. Wheres Roy Campbell During All This?
Roy Campbell has had a rather weird run when it comes to the pre-Solid Snake Metal Gear games. First introduced in spin-off Portable Ops, Campbell was set-up to be Big Boss' right hand man, a trusted soldier with whom Naked Snake formed the Foxhound unit with. However, the uneasy state of Portable Ops as canon in the main series means the story of that game is entirely up in the air, and many were expecting The Phantom Pain to set the record straight once and for all. As it stands currently though, Campbell could either be tied to Big Boss in a direct way or could only be relevant to the story once the latter returns to Foxhound some time before the beginning of the first Metal Gear. With MGS V choosing to leave this portion of Big Boss' life unanswered, Campbell's role in the prequels is still as vague as ever.
