Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 9 Big Questions It Should've Answered (But Didn't)
2. How Big Boss Became The Villain Of Metal Gear
Perhaps the biggest mystery and the biggest plot arc that was teased in the trailers, the reveal of why Big Boss transforms into the monster of the original Metal Gear, is never actually explained in Kojima's latest release. Hell, the character goes out of his way at points to show the audience just how much of good guy he is. From saving the child soldiers to giving the fallen Diamond Dogs the send-off they deserved, Big Boss on many occasions during the course of the game is shown to do the right thing even when succumbing to a dark side that would have made more sense for the narrative the title had been teasing. Look, Big Boss' warmongering, kidnapping and murderous ways doesn't make him the most innocent of protagonists, but nothing in this final game even hinted at how the character could go from how he is in V to the moustache-twirling villain of the original Metal Gear.
