Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Everything We Know So Far

2. The Fox-Engine Looks Incredible

Chances are that if you played the Ground Zeroes demo, one of the things that gave you the most pleasure was just exploring the military base on offer and marvelling at the beautiful lighting, weather and texture effects. Snake/Big Boss himself has also had a considerable upgrade since his days in Snake Eater and Peace Walker, as although last generation's MGS 4 still looks absolutely incredible, the Snake model in that game was of a far higher age. The only other thing we've seen the Fox Engine be applied to is horror-demo P.T. (that which unlocks the teaser for Silent Hills), but that had everything from extremely detailed everyday objects such as photo frames and radios to demonic beings and banana peels, so it's safe to say the engine itself is very robust. So far each Metal Gear game has taken us to a huge variety of locales, and if Big Boss' newfound quieter nature is an indication of a reliance on gameplay over cutscenes, it seems like we'll be spending huge amount of time gawping at wet pavements and crumpled clothing.
