Metal Gear Solid V: Ranking The Missions From Worst To Best
7. Sahelanthropus (Episode 31)
Overview: Prevent the combat deployment of the upright bipedal weapon Sahelanthropus, and take vengeance on Skull Face. Sahelanthropus is the final boss in The Phantom Pain's core story, a massive Gundam-looking machine that the player has to bring down. Now, it's a little disappointing that the final boss isn't really much more than a rocket sponge, but the sheer scale and visual grandeur of this battle, which spreads wide across the Afghan landscape, is quite unlike anything else seen in the series. Unless you fight Sahelanthropus on Extreme difficulty in Chapter 2, he's pretty much a piece of cake to defeat: just keep calling in air supply drops for more rockets, have your chopper fire rounds it where possible, and move to the cliff edge when the mech is about to fire its one-hit-kill beam. Even poor MGS players can score an easy S-rank on this mission, and you can now pat yourself on the back that you've beaten the main MGS V story. It pales compared to most of the series' other final bosses, but it's still a memorable fight all the same.
