Considering Thardus is literally a bunch of rocks, he doesn't look very innovative. However, he is among the highlights of Metroid Prime since the means to defeat him is quite original. You see, Thardus can be injured if he's blasted in a single weak point. But not only is his weakness invisible, the titan keeps moving its position.

To defeat Thardus, Samus must equip the Thermal Visor, which allows her to see heat signatures. While applying this device, Thardus' vulnerable point will be on full display.

If you thought you can just wear the Visor for the entire fight, it's not that simple. This gargantuan golem's attacks can disable your visor, rendering you momentarily blind.

Thardus can also freeze you in place, crush you after rolling into a ball, or knock you back with a shockwave. This colossus' relentless attacks force you to use the visor sparingly and strategically.
