Super Metroid introduced a fantastic power-up called the Speed Booster. Once obtained, Samus can sprint at an inhuman level once she builds up enough momentum. Not only that, she can perform a move while Boosting called Shinespark, which allows her to charge in any direction, including straight up.

The Speed Boost is tricky to master but has become so popular, it's appeared in nearly every follow-up since. However, the Shinespark works a little different in Metroid Dread.

Although the Shinespark only lasts a few seconds, you can reset by pressing down after running on a slanted area, allowing you to maintain its power longer than normal. Also, Dread is the first game in the series where you can perform the Shinespark while in Ball form.

These techniques require an astounding amount of precision to the point where a player will struggle to perform them once. Luckily, neither technique is needed to complete the game.

However, these moves are necessary to locate some of the out of reach upgrades. If you intend to find every single power-up in the game, you best start practising with the Shinespark right now.
