Super Metroid introduced a device called the Grapple Beam, which allows Samus Aran to hang and swing off Grapple points. Even though the tethering apparatus has appeared in most games since, it has extra features in Metroid Dread. Not only can it pull Grapple Blocks forward and pull open Grapple Doors, it can break off Grapple Seals, allowing Samus to enter new areas.

But there's one problem. The Grapple Seals can only be opened from one direction. If you arrive at the Grapple Seal from the wrong direction, you're stuck... or so it would appear. If you slide into the Grapple Seal, Samus will momentarily be closer to the tethering point than usual. If you use the Grapple Beam when Samus is as close to the tethering point as possible, she will be able to latch onto it, breaking it off.

Obviously, this trick can't be used on every Grapple Seal since some of them are in mid-air, preventing Samus from sliding into them. Nevertheless, it's a neat little secret that can help the player avoid a ton of backtracking.
