Metroid: Every Main Series Game Ranked Worst To Best
6. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Following up on what is widely considered one of the best video games of all time was never going to be an easy task, but Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios stepped up to the challenge and delivered.
Taking a cue from The Legend Of Zelda playbook by including parallel dark and light worlds, complete with dungeon-style puzzles, Echoes attempted to shake up the formula established in the series' first 3D game.
Unfortunately, some of the changes were not so well received by fans. While replicating a past game to the letter is never wise (just look at the ill-fated "New" Super Mario Bros series), Prime's tight formula made any additions and variations feel somewhat extraneous.
Echoes has also been criticised for its unforgiving gameplay, reverting the series to almost NES-era nail-biting difficulty. While its challenging nature made it a hit with hardcore gamers, Echoes proved an awkward transition for those coming straight off the back of the more accessible Prime.
