Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor - 8 Reasons To Be Excited

6. Death Isn€™t The End

The human protagonist of this game, Talion, has been possessed by an extremely powerful wraith which gives him some serious advantages. One of these is that death in-game is only a bit of a setback much like it is in a MMORPG, and the player simply ends up re-spawning from a previous checkpoint. But the really unique feature is that this death is actually considered to have happened within the context of the game, so you don€™t just flash back to the save point and continue on as if nothing had happened. Instead, due to the nemesis system, the orc that killed you will gain prestige and might go up in rank. Of course upon re-spawning, it is entirely up to the player when to track down that orc and remove his head from his body, or to use it as some sort of advantage. After all if that orc continues to believe that Talion is dead then he may be able to move around unheeded €“ although if he then finds out, then the enemy may set out to make the death a little more permanent, or else lose his newly found position.
