Mirror's Edge: Catalyst - 10 Huge New Details You Need To Know About
3. It's A 'Soft' Reboot
For the purposes of Mirror's Edge's journey to the current gen the developers at DICE felt as though a reboot was in order, which has now obviously rendered the events of the first game redundant. It's a technique not often used in gaming, especially with a franchise as young as Mirror's Edge, but as it stands the erasure of previous continuity may just be what Catalyst needs to find its footing years on from its initial debut. Faith has now firmly adopted the 'no guns' rule made famous by Batman and the role of the 'runner' has now been redefined completely. Now no longer couriers for the resistance movement, Catalyst's runners now operate almost as cat burglars - stealing intel from the corporations that are laying waste to the fictionalised world that inhabits the City of Glass. Sure it's a move that will likely upset the hard core of fans who loved the original, but DICE's developers have said that the events of the first game may come to pass in the future, so there's always hope regardless.
