Mirror's Edge Catalyst: 10 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment

8. The Open-World Is Dull

Mirror's Edge is the latest franchise to get the open-world overhaul, as is so fashionable these days. Sadly, though, the end result is an extremely uninspired, even boring world that loses its appeal after an hour or two of play.

The problems are numerous: the general design and colour scheme aren't very interesting, and the game's missions will see you taking the same repetitive routes over and over again to the point that you'll probably end up just using the Fast Travel option later on. Is there any bigger complaint about an open-world game than the player preferring to use this shortcut?

There was absolutely no need for the game to go open-world, and considering the minimal effort that's been put into creating a living, breathing world (it instead feels almost totally empty and lifeless), a more conventional, boxed-in map would've served just fine.
