Monster Hunter World: Ranking Every Weapon From Worst To Best

8. Hammer

Odogaron Monster Hunter
Capcom

Pros: Massive raw attack power, able to run when not sheathed, blunt attacks make for easy KOs

Cons: Worst-in-tier sharpness, terrible reach, can't cut tails

Beaten only by the great sword in terms of raw power, World's hammer is nothing short of a primal force of sheer destruction against heavily-armoured opponents, able to shatter even the solid bone that Negigante encases itself in like an eggshell. As is its nature as a blunt instrument, the hammer has an easier time than most knocking monsters out cold and can bolster its damage even further with sundering charge attacks, but we've so far only told half the story.

In order to ensure the blunt instrument isn't a runaway winner in the arms race, Capcom's seen fit to put a cap on the hammer's reach, requiring that you risk life and limb to dish out consistent damage, and stripped it of any meaningful damage multiplier through sharpening.

Those are drawbacks that can be accounted for, though if you're in the market for materials exclusive to chopping off monster tails, you may need to fire up the SOS - hammers aren't exactly known for slicing.
