Debuting back in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Ashrah is a demon who pines for a peaceful life. By killing enough evil entities, Ashrah hopes to purify herself of all sin.

Even though Ashrah has an intriguing backstory, nothing has been done with the character for almost 20 years, making her return in MK1 a big surprise. Her origins have remained unchanged, but more focus is put on her personal struggles, which is sure to tug on players' heartstrings.

What's interesting about Ashrah is her inner conflict has been incorporated into her fighting style. The demoness can switch between light and dark stances, each offering distinctive attacks. If her opponent is struck with light while succumbing to dark damage, they'll lose more health.

However, this means Ashrah needs to keep transitioning to be effective, leaving her open. As a result, it might be in some players' best interests to stick with one style.

But because the rest of her move-set doesn't cause major damage, players will be inconvenienced, whether they use one or both stances.
