Mortal Kombat: 10 Absolute Worst Characters Ever

6. Kai

Kai remains one of the few black characters in the Mortal Kombat universe, but that fact doesn't save him from complete obscurity.

Kai was introduced in Mortal Kombat 4, as were quite a few new characters. Unfortunately, Kai was one of the poor characters that were introduced and overshadowed by the likes of Quan Chi and Shinnok.

Kai's Mortal Kombat 4 design was generic, minus some gaudy tiger-stripe tattoos, and he hasn't been seen since Armageddon, some 9 years after his debut. In Armageddon he had a slightly better design than his original, but he was still entirely forgettable.

What is perhaps most disappointing about Kai, is the fact that he was almost included in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance with an incredible redesign. In the concept design for Kai in Deadly Alliance, he was wearing purple cloth around his waist, a purple rag tied around his head, shirtless with his white tattoos, and he wielded a scimitar - not unlike the Price of Persia.

So Kai hasn't been seen since Armageddon, outside of a few cameos. He's a character that is desperate to be redesigned and brought forth into the 21st century.

Until then, he's just a footnote.
