Joesph Dredd is a ‘Judge’ from the 2000 AD comics. In the comics, Judge’s are super cops that function as “Judge, Jury and Executioner”. Sylvester Stallone portrayed Judge Dredd in the 1995 film of the same name. More recently, the character was portrayed by Karl Urban in the 2012 film Dredd.

This diversity would give NetherRealm Studios a choice about which iteration of the character they wish to adapt. While Stallone’s performance as Judge Dredd is generally considered to be weak and hammy, Urban’s performance in Dredd is very strong.

The third option would be to use a comic accurate adaptation of Judge Dredd, as Karl Urban’s Dredd has a much grittier costume, significantly toned down from both Stallone’s costume and the comic’s costume.

NetherRealm Studios could lean into the more stylized, over the top portrayal of Judge Dredd without him seemingly out of place among the roster. The main drawback to including Dredd would be the similarities to RoboCop.

Both characters are the peak of law enforcement from their respective franchises, with the pursuit of justice at the forefront of their minds. Despite this, there is enough source material to make Dredd stand out on the roster.
