3. Sonya Blade

In a rather perplexing - yet totally awesome - move, MK staple Sonya Blade is now being voiced by UFC Hall of Famer, Ronda Rousey. Apparently a fan of the franchise for years, Rousey appeared at the reveal event in-character to announce the news, alongside new footage of the fighter in action.

The change does seem rather random, but it's not unwelcome. Though Sonya has her fans, from a visual perspective she's always felt a little bit like a 90s throwback. That's sometimes worked in her favour, but her character design and reliance on tech and gadgets in combat hasn't given her too much of a distinct identity compared to other fighters who can, say, send people straight to hell, for instance.

Still, she's a staple for a reason, and the footage released so far looks just as compelling as any other fighter on the roster, and a new look and voice might just be enough to make her feel fresh again in MK 11.
