Mortal Kombat 12: 10 Underrated Characters We Want To See

7. Stryker

Poor Stryker. His name was initially used for a Special Forces character in the original game. Lacking a female character, he was changed into what eventually became Sonya Blade.

Then, when it came to introduce an African American character for the sequel, he was renamed Jax. Finally, when the third game came out, Stryker was unleashed only to turn out to be one of the least popular among the new additions.

The reason for his unpopularity was Kurtis Stryker was just too much of an everyman. In a game where there were ninjas, robots and monks who shoot fireballs, the cop with a gun just seemed too regular.

With his T-shirt and backwards cap, Stryker's arsenal were guns and tasers. Because of this, it would be years until Stryker came back and so his character remained dormant.

It's a shame as well because Stryker does play a decent role in the games' story. A city cop and partner of former Black Dragon member Kabal, he managed to take down powerhouses such as Kintaro. He was even voiced by Ron Perlman himself in the animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm.

Despite the recent efforts Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and Mortal Kombat (2011) tried in revamping the character, Stryker has yet to be a permanent addition to the roster.
