Mortal Kombat X: 10 Huge Problems Nobody Wants To Admit
9. There's No Progression
Save for one unlockable character in Shinnok, the base game of MK X you'll put in your system on day one with zero time invested is exactly the same as the one you'll have 10-50 hours in - and that's a huge problem. Even MK 9 had a couple of fighters you procedurally unlocked across the course of the game like Cyber Sub-Zero and Quan Chi, but for X the whole roster of 29 fighters is available from the get-go. Yes Goro's included as an extra too, but not without his complimentary 'Press X to buy!' prompt, further highlighting the 'money first, satisfaction second' approach to the overall design. With a price of £3.99 (a tenth of the full game's price at some retailers, and that's still cheaper than most) it doesn't even make sense, as when the roster itself is 29 characters strong, if you divide that into a £40 retail price, each one then comes in at around £1.40. What gives?
