8. Ferra/Torr (Ruthless)
Ferra/Torr's Ruthless variant sounds fun and powerful to use on paper, but spending just a few hours with the variant will tell an entirely different story. The main mechanic here is that the character gains the 'Pain and Gain' special move; buffing your damage at the cost of sacrificing health per use of the boon. Pain and Gain can be stacked up to three times in succession, so just one single punch from Ferra/Torr while under the effect is essentially powerful enough to send you into orbit. It's a shame then, that you'll probably never get a hit off. See, Torr's slow as molasses, so you all you really need to do is play keep-away with the dimwit until the buff drops off and all he has to show for it is self-inflicted 5% loss of HP. There should be the option to pop Pain and Gain and rushdown your opponent immediately after, but if your enemy has Super Meter to burn, they can just cancel any of Torr's attacks with an enhanced wake-up attack. It's okay, though. No drastic changes are needed to buff the variation. Just remove the ability to cancel Torr's rushdown tactic with super wake-up attacks and we're golden.
