NBA 2K18 Demo Hands-On: 4 Things We Learned

1. Even As A Demo, It's Very Limited

2K Games

This is the biggest problem with the demo - it's simply too limited. While the one for NBA Live 18 allowed you to play games as your player constantly and improve your on-screen alter ego in the process, NBA 2K18 is just three streetball games and one tryout with an NBA team. After you complete these four games, there are only the 2KU games left for you to play.

And these can also get frustrating, as not only is there nobody holding score - although you find out if you won after the clock runs out, as the winners will be celebrating on the court - but your plays are limited by tips from the game. Sometimes they appear just as you're about to shoot and once they are over, your player is no longer open.

So the demo doesn't really show what game NBA 2K18 is going to be. It's hard to see how big of a leap it made since last year, nor how a real basketball game in a full arena will actually feel. The full game is definitely worth the wait, but The Prelude doesn't do anything to sweeten it.
