NBA 2K20 Demo: 10 Reactions You Need To Know
4. There's No Prelude
Last year, 2K19's Prelude set the tone for what could expected in the MyCareer story. It previewed the full tale by letting players storm through an opening chapter that would (hopefully) entice them into buying the full game to see more. There's nothing of the sort in 2K20.
The Prelude is conspicuous by its absence.
Instead, you're treated to a brief explanation of what the MP Builder is from some hosts, then the MyPlayer creator kicks in immediately. There's zero effort on 2K's part to build narrative anticipation. This is beans on toast production when 2K19 offered gourmet meats, and it's pretty jarring.
The intro called the demo a "paper thin" package. It definitely is, and the lack of a Prelude story to give it some oomph is one reason why. The thrill of MyCareer is in melding storytelling with customisation and incremental skill improvements. That's not properly explained here.
