NBA 2K21: 10 Things We Already Know
4. More Focus Towards WNBA
Last September, NBA 2K20 became the first instalment in the franchise to incorporate women's teams from the WNBA on to the virtual basketball court, albeit without too much focus being put towards them.
They were merely featured in the game's standard play mode. Like with the FIFA franchise, who introduced women's teams all the way back in FIFA 16, it feels as if the female basketballers are simply being included in the game simply to have them there. It doesn't feel like there's a reason for them being there.
However, YouTuber DBG has stumbled across an apparent leak with regards to the WNBA in NBA 2K21.
The video shows a glitch wherein WNBA player images are in place of their male counterparts in the game's MyTEAM mode. Considering the images for the WNBA teams would have had to be made, it's unlikely this is a simple glitch.
Furthermore, a Q&A with gameplay director Mike Wang stated the following;
"Well we didn’t want to unveil too much stuff today with new modes, but one thing I will say is that fans of the WNBA are going to be very excited for what we’re bringing to the table with Next-Gen."
Add all of this together, and it appears as if WNBA fans will have plenty to look forward to come 4 September.
