Before joining the NBA, the Indiana Pacers found quite a bit of success in the American Basketball Association, which would eventually merge with the NBA. Sadly, that success hasn't quite followed over to the NBA.
Like the majority of the teams on this list, they've had some real star players over the years - Reggie Miller, Larry Bird, and Paul George, to name but a few. The trading of George to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017 in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis proved to be a risky move on the Pacers' part, but it's a trade they made work - Oladipo's first season with the Pacers saw him receive the Most Improved Player award, while Sabonis would become an All-Star in the 2019/20 season.
They may never reach the level they were once at when they had the aforementioned star players in their books, however, if they're able to build up Oladipo and Sabonis to be on a similar level to those basketball legends, then there's still hope for the Pacers. The signing of new head coach Nate Bjorkgren - formerly of the Toronto Raptors - could be the tool they need to accomplish that.
