Once an accomplished team, the Portland Trail Blazers have failed to break past the proverbial glass ceiling in more recent decades. They may have won the 1977 World Championship Series, but that was 43 years ago. Things have changed dramatically for the squad since then.
After acquiring Damian Lillard - another of the NBA 2K21 cover stars - in 2012, they've gone on to reclaim a bit of that lost glory, with the point guard being a five-time All-Star while under contract to the Trail Blazers, while also earning the Rookie of the Year award. While that singles success for Damian hasn't quite transferred over to the rest of the team (they're yet to make an NBA final since 1992), they've been in the playoffs on countless occasions.
A key note here, for what it's worth, is that while the Portland team haven't made the playoffs in nearly thirty years, they did manage to make it to the western conference finals in the 2018/19 season for the first time since 2000. They may have lost in four games, however, there's no denying this as an accomplishment for the squad.
If they continue to make Lillard a key player, then perhaps there's hope the team will not only repeat the success of 1977, but boost that overall rating.
