NBA 2K22: 10 Things We Already Know
8. The First WNBA Cover Star
NBA 2K22 makes history - finally - with the inaugural WNBA cover star, as Candace Parker takes center-stage as the exclusive cover athlete for buyers at GameStop.
It's apt, really, as the WNBA was founded twenty-five years ago on 22 April 1996. The inclusion of Parker as a cover star is therefore not only warranted, given the success of the league, but a welcomed bonus, too. Unless they were specifically waiting for this sort of anniversary, it makes little sense as to why 2K waited so long to pull the trigger.
A special 25th-anniversary special edition will also be available for next-generation consoles only. Again, it's mind-boggling as to why this is the case, as the NBA's 75th-anniversary edition will be playable for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch users. Unless there's a unique reason for this, it is, once more, frustrating.
Nonetheless, having Candace's face adorned across the cover will bring new eyes to the NBA 2K franchise, as well as being a welcomed surprise for many. In 2021, you should at least be able to use the WNBA players online, but as of NBA 2K21, that wasn't possible.
Surely, this will be a change made to 2K22's online mode, right?
