NBA 2K22: 10 Things We Already Know
2. Matchmaking Is An Option In The City
Here's one of those 'only on next-gen' features that was alluded to earlier; matchmaking will only be available to those on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This comes by way of the City, which provides a much faster route to finding online competition. An added incentive is that all of these games will contribute to the overall progress of your MyPLAYER, with matchmaking sessions also available for a number of different game types.
The City itself is said to now be full of life, with numerous NPCs filling out the new layout, with a new quest system presenting MyPLAYERs with new avenues to level up quicker and earn rewards.
For matchmaking to work in NBA 2K22, it'll need to be vastly improved from previous outings. The report states that you'll be placed in "select matchmaking buildings", giving off the vibe that you'll be placed with other MyPLAYERs of a similar overall. There is no benefit to this, however; all it does is prevent those with higher overalls either completely obliterating the competiton with lower ratings, or looking foolish if they then lose to that same player.
Why this is only on next-gen makes little sense, either. It's not the only next-gen-only feature, of course...
