The Jordan Challenge and now Mamba Moments are akin to WWE 2K's Showcase mode, wherein players digitally recreate the iconic matches of a respective WWE Superstar. The mode has been typically well-received, as was the Jordan Challenge, but it's the WWE games that are a step ahead of their sister mode.

Introducing new technology in WWE 2K22's Showcase for Rey Mysterio, the mode differentiated itself from its predecessors by incorporating footage of the real match alongside the digital one, thus creating a more comprehensive recreation of Mysterio's best battles. It continued, in WWE 2K23, with John Cena, albeit to a greater extent, too, and now it's carrying over to NBA 2K.

Labelled ProPLAY, NBA describes the technology as "groundbreaking" and a "generational leap in authenticity". It'll seemingly do the exact same as WWE 2K does; translate original on-the-court footage into a programmed environment, so that it flows seamlessly with the digitally recreated game.

How, exactly, it works in a basketball title is something 2K are remaining tight-lipped about, though it'll presumptively work exactly the same - tick off an objective and a cutscene-esque sequence will play out, showcasing Kobe Bryant's illustrious career.

This, as was to be expected, will be a current-generation exclusive feature, with users still operating on an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4 being restricted to standard gameplay.
