Nintendo Labo Explained: 9 Things You Need To Know
1. How Does It Work: The Robot Suit
The big showstopper - and one that the most grown-ups will call a "guilty pleasure" from here on out - the Robot Suit.
Easily the most complex in terms of how the tech is working behind the scenes, it seems like the Suit has the capacity to track both arms and legs independently - set up by holding a Joy-Con in each hand, and using extendable cord to stretch down to your feet.
Interestingly, the images shown so far show two sets of Joy-Cons - one in each hand, one on the person's head, and another in the backpack.
Now, the latter is crucial, as by placing the right Joy-Con "looking into" the backpack, you can see it scanning a number of markers that all move as your arms and legs do. Possibly just to nail down the readouts necessary to control a robot on-screen, there has to be a way for this Robot Kit to work with just one set of Joy-Cons - unless more are coming inside the box (which I doubt).
Either way, we can assume this Kit is playable with the left Joy-Con in a hand of your choice, and the right inside the backpack, tracking your other limbs.
Speaking with TIME magazine, Nintendo legend Reggie Fils-Aime stated that all this technology "can be incorporated into other forms of gameplay" (bring on the Metroid Varia suit), but for now, they're concentrating on "effectively communicat[ing] the power of the idea".
Well, message received.
