Nintendo Switch: 10 Console Features It Desperately Needs

9. Performance Between Dock And Portable Modes

A surprising issue with the Nintendo Switch is that there is a noticeable difference in the performance and features of games depending on whether or not they're being played when docked or portable.

Considering the focus of the Switch on its ability to play games on the move and at home, there needs to be a greater sense of synchronisation between the two. One notable example is in Breath of the Wild, where for some reason, it performs much better when in portable mode than docked - assumedly down to the change in resolution output. The whole purpose of the docking system is to allow for games to be projected in higher quality, something which is simply not being achieved.

Another issue is that some games, such as VOEZ, can actually only be played in handheld mode, and whilst it makes sense considering the rhythmic nature of the game, playing on Switch feels somewhat pointless given this new limitation.

Games need to ensure that they have parity between the two different ways of playing, in order to have the Switch showcase its best strength.
