Nintendo Switch: 10 Harsh Truths Nobody Wants To Admit

3. The Controller Has Digital Triggers

The difference between digital triggers and analog triggers may not seem that huge, but from a gameplay perspective they're pretty distinct. Besides, having options is always a good thing.

If you're not aware, analog triggers are essentially pressure sensitive - they can be "half-clicked" by applying less pressure to the trigger. Digital triggers, on the other hand, act like a regular button. They're either pressed or they aren't, there is no in between. Analog triggers are fantastic for driving games for example, letting players gradually accelerate, but they're also useful for other functionality.

It's disappointing the Nintendo Switch uses digital triggers because Nintendo has historically been very good at coming up with interesting trigger functionality.

Games like Super Mario Sunshine used the analog triggers to fluctuate the pressure of Mario's F.L.U.D.D. system. Not only that, but the Wii U not having analog triggers is generally considered to be the main reason why it had absolutely no GameCube virtual console functionality.

So it's very unlikely we'll be seeing GameCube titles on the Nintendo Switch virtual console either.
