The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and its GameCube companion are perhaps less in need of Virtual Console releases given the fact that Wii U owners have had the chance to enjoy them as HD remasters in the last few years on the lovely gamepad. That being said, the added chance to take two might Zelda games not just to the other side of the room but even to the other side of the planet is a welcome bonus.

Wind Waker remains a game that stands the test of time due to its unforgettable art style and ease of playability. Yes, the dungeons were simpler and the combat was far easier thanks to the parry-roll but the game still had memorable locations, fairly good action/combat scenes plus an amazing journey beneath the waves to discover Hyrule long since flooded and abandoned.

The plot also tried to do something unique beyond the fact that you’re Link and therefore the designated Hero of Time before anything even gets started. At first you’re just a kid who does chores for his gran and wants to find your irritating sister after she is kidnapped. It’s only later the whole “Hero of Time” saga is laid upon your young Link shoulders.

P.S. I liked the sailing.
