5. Nintendo's Library Is Getting Stronger
For the past two years, Nintendo has been doing a series of online videos to make announcements for new games and systems, called Nintendo Direct. These videos, while great, have never been as earth-shatteringly important as the one that aired this past week. When Satoru Iwata graced our computer screens the other day, he did not bring news of a Wii U redesign (which I'll touch on soon), but instead, he came bearing promises and presents. Within his presentation, he confirmed that we would not only be seeing the new Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at E3, but that we will also be treated to a new Mario Kart AND a 3D Mario game by the Galaxy team. While that could have been enough, Iwata continued with the announcement of the first Yoshi-centric console game since the N64's Yoshi's Story, which got me hyped beyond I can fully express (it's also being done by the Kirby Epic Yarn team, so yeah. No words). We received a completely unexpected crossover title in the form of Fire Emblem x Shin Megami Tensei (which revitalizes my hope for the equally odd Star Fox x Metroid crossover game). And finally, while Iwata couldn't say much about the new Zelda Wii U game, he assured viewers that progress is being made and offered a consolation prize for our patience: an HD update of the GameCube classic, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. While most of these games were not revealed with a release date, it is quite reassuring to know that January and February are not representative of the Wii U's future.
