No Man's Sky: 10 Core Gameplay Features You Need To Know About
6. Forge Alliances With Different Races To Aid Your Play-Style
Race-relations formed the narrative backbone of many an incredible Mass Effect moment, but why should you bother to seek out these ancillary characters?
Sean Murray has the answer. In that same PlayStation interview, he dove into how they factor into gameplay directly, opening up things like better ships, weapons and crafting recipes you'd otherwise not get:
“If you’re playing the game for exploration’s sake, you might want to focus on [a particular race]. But if you’re playing the game and all you want to do is kill things, there are more military-based races, so you might want to try and become friends with them.”
Although it's been made clear that the game's focus is on exploration, there will be plenty opportunities to raid trade routes, dogfight with other ships and embark on lengthy journeys with a few targets in your crosshairs.
It seems there are allegiances to be made with whoever gets labelled the 'warrior races' if you're looking to spread terror throughout the galaxy, just as much as there are others who favour peace, science and invention (read: Crafting) over all else.
