9. The Opening Synopsis

Somehow Outlast 2 manages to get under your skin even before the action in the demo gets started. A brief introduction to the story flashes up at the very beginning, giving you an explanation as to just why your character is heading into this nightmare.

The synopsis explains that the events of this game will lead players "into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no-one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do".

Given that the original game was hella scary even with a pretty small scale plot-line at the centre, who knows what kind of creepy characters are at the heart of this new mystery. The only thing that was reliably predictable about Outlast was its story progression, but even that might be uncertain this time around.
